California Winter

We have had so much rain that the garden has turned into one large mud pie!  I have been afraid to step outside since Christmas lest I begin to sink into the black mire of gooey earth.  The rain did stop but it’s going to take a while to dry up this mess.  Nights have been uncommonly cold well below freezing into the 20’s. I wake to grass and everything surrounding my house covered in a thick white layer of frost. If I try hard enough I can almost pretend it is snow. This is the closest thing I  will get to it in my California winter.  By 9am the sun will have risen enough to have begun to melt away all the frost and more water will be added to my sea of mud.  Tomorrow though for the first time in years there is a prediction of flurries! I’ll wait and see what my California winter brings.
